seems like she always thins it a little, but when i wash it it just seems normal again!!! can i get it thinned alot where it will stay for a while, and i will be able to do a shag haircut?

i also have very THICK hair, when you go to a salon, if they do it right, its an attachment that goes onto a comb, and they just brush it like normal, and while you brush it thins out your hair, they will do it until you are at your desired thinness. the attachment looks like a half pair of scissors without a handle. tell the person doing your hair, whats happening when you wash it and maybe they will give you a special shampoo for thick hair.

From my experience, they should use thinning shears. It's a pair of scissors that don't cut all the way across like a normal pair. It only cuts in certain spots, maintaining the length for the most part but making there be less hair at the same time.

A pair of thinning shears would cut in that sort of pattern, only cutting hair in the "0".

My hair is extremely thick and my stylist did the whole thinning and texturizing look. I actually hate it cause the bottom part of my hair is damaged from coloring it so it caused that part to poof. But it did the job of thinning it out a lot so when I straighten my hair I have a complete sleek thinned out look. Again, I don't like this type of style just because i love having a lot of hair flying everywhere...but for those who want their thick hair thinner then this is what hairstylists usually suggest.

yes have her thin it while its dry after she cuts it sometimes when you thin hair, you think its good then you dry the hair and its still a little bulky. Most hair dresses are scared to thin it. Also if you thin the ends too much it will look bad... but not to close to the head because it will puff up to much kinda in the middle region. Yes you can do a shag hair cut if your hair is not curly see if she will cut it with a razor, and no it does not hurt you hair as long as the hair is wet and the blade is sharp. I almost always cut with a razor. It's funner in my mind.

thin hair looks ugly, if you have natural thick hair you should keep it like that. maybe its just how you style your hair. i think what you need is more volume; get layers to add more volume to your hair.
